If you buy the March issue of glamour magazine from Waitrose (exclusively) at the moment you get a free sample of either Hugo Boss Ma Vie, or Jour. Now when I say ‘sample’ I don’t think that’s quite fair, as perfume samples are usually about 1/1.5 ml – these ‘samples’ are a whopping 7.4ml each, I know that still doesn’t sound much but these are a substantial enough travel/handbag size.
The Magazine itself cost only £2 and if my calculations are correct, based on the per 100ml price on the 30ml sizes, on johnlewis.com, the Jour perfume is worth £8.36 and the Ma Vie is worth £9.10. This is great value.
I have tried both and I would describe them both as quite subtle, girly fragrances, Jour is the lighter of the two, personally I usually go for something quite sweet or strong in a perfume, so I prefer Ma Vie as it is a little more intense, but of course I would – it’s the more expensive of the two.
The Hugo Boss website describes Ma Vie as having top notes of ‘cactus blossom’, middle notes of ‘Pink Floral Bouquet with Rose Bud’ and base notes of ‘cedar wood’. Jour is described as having tp notes of ‘Agathosma, Grapefruit Flower, Lime Accord’, middle notes of ‘Honeysuckle, Lilly of the Valley, Freesia’ and base notes of ‘Creamy Amber, White Birch, Orris’.
Also, if you’re after some more Hugo Boss, they are giving away samples of Man or Woman on their website right now too, I’m sure these will be teeny but it’s great if you want to try something new.
